Exquisitely Creative Digital Artwork

Today's feature: Fantastic Digital Artwork by Stan Bowman

Stan Bowman has been an artist for nearly 50 years and has exhibited his work both nationally and internationally, as a photographer, painter and digital artist. His artwork is in such collections as the San Francisco Museum of Art, Bibilotech National in Paris, German Photographic Society and many other locations.

Since the mid 1980's he has been involved with digital imaging, not only with still images, but also with digital video, 3D animation and digital music.

His recent work is about finding new ways of seeing digital still images, sometimes working at the pixel level. What excites him is discovering new ways of restructuring imagery using current digital technology.

Stan Bowman's digital art is absolutely gorgeous! I love it and I believe you all will, too!

Celebrating Textiles as a Medium for Urbane, Sophisticated Art

Today's feature: Fine Art Textiles & More by Artist Marilyn Henrion

Marilyn Henrion's hand-stitched constructions transform geometric elements into abstract, metaphorical images with strong graphic impact. With frequent references to literature, she uses color, line, and form much as a poet employs words to convey an emotion or idea.

As in poetry, the images are meant to resonate, being both themselves and something they may suggest to the viewer.

With sixteen solo exhibitions to her credit, and with works in museum, corporate and private collections worldwide, Marilyn Henrion’s reputation as one of the foremost contemporary, fiber artists is undisputed.

Recently, Henrion has added digital photography to her repertoire with Metropolis…...a series of photographic images based on the same geometric urban environment that inspires the artist’s textile works.

The artist's papers and sketchbooks are included in the Smithsonian Institution’s Archives of American Art in Washington, DC. Among her many honors is a Fellowship from The New York Foundation for the Arts, awarded in 2002.

Gorgeous Fine Art

Today's feature: The Gorgeous Art of Beverly Carrick

Beverly Carrick was born in California and gravitated to art at a very early age. In 1963, Carrick began to paint professionally and became known as a seascape artist in Laguna Beach and in Los Angeles.

Carrick is mostly self-taught but at the same time, sought the expertise of major artists, luminaries such as Lukits, Kerr, and Franks. The appeal of Carrick's work lies in its timelessness, beauty, and unique interpretation of the Sturm and Drang of nature.

She is well-known for her famed purple deserts, as well as mountain-land-and-seascapes. Carrick also finds inspiration in Roman and Greek saga which carry over into fantasy work. Moreover, Carrick loves to paint Western art and can catch both the seriousness and the subtle aspects of the "human condition" as it relates to the cowboys and townsfolk, alike.

Exquisite Abstract Art

Today's post: The Magic of Abstract Art by Rom Lammar

Luxembourg artist Rom Lammar specializes in abstract paintings. As he states, "Although my creations are very intuitive and based on great spontaneity, I never forget the basic principles of a good abstract composition: right space division, unity, fineness of form, and a certain degree of mystery. In many ways, my paintings could be considered as inner landscapes."

Rom Lammar's love of traveling (he made a round-the-world trip in 1992-1994), combined with his interest in primitive cultures, have led the artist on a quest for the unusual and an increasing use of non-traditional elements in his work, such as sand, wood, rusted metal pieces, rope, and small stones.

His recent paintings are influenced by sculptural forms and texture. The magic of his compositions is based on the way he uses depth, light, and shadow, to set the overall mood of the painting.

Bronze Sculptors by Sterett-Gittings Kelsey

Today's feature: The Divine Sculptures of Sterett-Gittings Kelsey

Kelsey works primarily in bronze, with sculptures ranging from three inches to twenty two feet in height. She is the leading sculptor of dance in the world today.

The Kelsey bronzes are owned by major collectors and connoisseurs of "Investment-level Fine Art". These masterworks in bronze can be found in more than 300 public and private collections worldwide.

The Kelsey sculptures are hand-made from start to finish. The transformation from Kelsey's clay original, into a masterpiece in bronze, is a long and expensive process. A new ceramic mold is handmade for each sculpture. A mold is used only once.... then... it is destroyed in the casting process. There are about thirty five steps which each work passes through on the way to becoming a completed work of art.

Each sculpture bears: the copyright symbol, The artist's logo, the artist's name, date of origin, foundry mark and the edition number.

After high school, John attended the School of Fine Arts at Washington University on a scholarship. The year he graduated, his work was accepted by the St. Louis Art Museum for exhibit in their annual show.

Throughout his career, John has won numerous awards and prizes in various art shows. He has also done many commissioned works both for individual collectors and institutions, including a series of paintings for a Lutheran organization in St. Louis.

Sublime Abstract Art

Today's feature: The Sublime Abstract Art of Mary Lea Bradley

Mary Lea Bradley's art is immediately striking. Her abstract paintings are characterized by a sense of mystery that invites the viewer in. The paintings transport you from reality to a vibrant, mystical world where you are the story teller, creating and interpreting your own stories.

Excited about her newest work, yet unpretentious about her artistic flair and sophisticated eye, Bradley and her work are very approachable and accessible.

Creative, Beautifully Embellished Pottery
Today's feature: Anita Mills Gallery Documentary

Anita Mills was born in Lubbock, Texas, in 1952. She attended public school there through her undergraduate degree, earning a B.F.A. in Ceramics and Printmaking from Texas Tech University. After completing her M.F.A. in Studio Art and Art History, from the University of Texas at Austin in 1977, she took a teaching position at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. During her twelve years at St. Cloud, she taught all levels of design, drawing, painting, printmaking, theory of art and “Women Artists: An Historical Survey.”

A resident of North Carolina since 1989, Anita currently lives near Hillsborough where she maintains her home and studio. She is a full-time artist and itinerant teacher of art/design/craft; teaching adults and young adults through workshops and courses offered in community education settings.

Anita uses a variety of studio techniques in her work, including relief printmaking, woodturning, blacksmithing and silversmithing. Lately, Anita has been embellishing many of her vessels with precious gems, rough stones, shell, bone, feathers, and polished or rusted metals. Additionally, she has included knobs, finials and lids turned from wood at her lathe.

Throughout her career as an artist, Anita has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions—both competitive and invitational, in regional and national venues. On many occasions she has joyfully served as guest artist, conference panelist and exhibition juror.

Visual Communication and Presentation

The following presentation is an engaging and enlightening one from Viraj Circar and Veena Sonwalkar about graphic design. I think the insights this presentation contains are concise and beneficial to anyone that is interested in graphic design. Some of the questions it answers are:

Basic Questions

  • What is graphic design?
  • How did graphic design evolve?
  • When did the profession come into existence?
  • Why did the profession come into existence?
What does a Graphic Designer do?
  • What is the objective of the communication?
  • What needs to be said first and then next and then after that? (levels of hierarchy)
  • How do you want the eye to flow through the page?
  • What is the tone of voice? Who are you speaking to?
Enjoy!

Creative and Analytical Thinking

In a few words, I'll say that I really enjoyed this presentation by Amir Khella. It is 'designed' to inform with a concise, yet simple theme. Among the questions answered and points covered here, are:

  • What is Design?
  • What is Design Thinking?
  • What is Innovation?
  • School Life versus Real Life
  • What Makes a Good Design Thinker?
  • How Can a Start-up Integrate Design Thinking?
Simply expressed, this is a well-thought-out presentation. It speaks for itself. Enjoy!
